Riding on the resurgence of true crime fascination and the horror genre’s newfound respect (see: Get Out‘s multiple Oscar noms), the Vancouver Horror Show Film Festival (VHS) is coming to town— time to turn down the lights and break out the spine-chilling whispers.
The event, presented by Vancouver-based production company, Fresh as a Daisy Films, is a celebration of short films with dark elements from all over the world, including the United States, Philippines, Netherlands, and of course, Canada.
Interwoven with dozens of other genres, horror-infused films will compete for awards and prizes like best film, best director, best cinematography, and best writer.
The festival makes its debut October 23, 2018, at the Cinematheque, but for aspiring filmmakers and digital storytellers in this bone-chilling field, the competition has already begun: VHS is now heading into the official start of the submission process.
