About THE VHS
What terrifies us is what unites us. The VHS is a cultural event (and a registered charity under the Canadian Revenue Agency) intended to celebrate great and provide a platform for emerging talent in the world of independent filmmaking. The VHS believes horror is an exemplar genre to tell stories about the world we live in through a lens of the unimaginable.
After a successful, sold-out inaugural year, the Vancouver Horror Show Film Festival is returning for the sequel in 2019. Last year’s blood-red carpet event featured 12 short horror films from all over the world that stunned and delighted audiences, filmmakers, horror fans and cinephiles alike. In year 2, the VHS will continue to bring creators, diverse audiences, and the horror industry together in vibrant downtown Vancouver, BC for a two-day festival screening 32 short horror films from 9 different countries, and the Canadian Premiere of Lisa Ovies’ Puppet Killer. As of 2019, the VHS is also hosting a horror screenwriting contest.
