JOSEPH BURCH
Joseph Burch is an award-winning horror writer and director from Morgan Hill, California. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Film and Television Production from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts, with a minor in Screenwriting.
While at USC, he worked for Oscar-nominated producer David Permut. After graduating, Joseph served as a writer’s assistant and research editor for novelist David Bender, contributing to the ghostwriting of celebrity biographies.
Now based in Los Angeles, Joseph works as a freelance script reader for companies including Watch This Ready, Passenger Pictures, and NYC Midnight.
His previous horror short, Stains, premiered at the HollyShorts Film Festival, where it was nominated for the Kodak Best Shot on Film 16mm Award. In addition to HollyShorts, Stains received multiple awards and nominations at FilmQuest, the Poppy Jasper International Film Festival, and Hollywood Shortsfest.
Nail-Biter is Joseph’s latest independent short, a gothic horror film developed as a proof of concept for his potential feature debut, which he began writing in January 2025.
