THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES OF HORROR

ABOUT THE panel

You only get one chance to make a first impression - and in horror, the opening five minutes can make or break the movie.

Writers, directors and editors break down some of their favourite horror openings and explore exactly why they work. From the first image to the first scare, the panel digs into tone, character, pacing, visual language, editing, tension and the all-important promise you make to the audience about the movie they’re about to see.

Featuring perspectives from across the filmmaking process, The First Five Minutes of Horror is part film-school masterclass, part horror movie deep dive with practical insights writers, directors, editors and producers can take straight into their own work.

Presented by Creative BC and Vancouver Post Alliance
