Brenna Goodwin-McCabe is a versatile writer and director with a keen interest in Gothic horror. She has presented her writing at McGill University, Dalhousie University, and the University of British Columbia, where she completed her grant-awarded Master of English degree with a thesis on Mary Shelley and Guillermo del Toro.
In 2020, Brenna established Hearth Pictures with her first horror short, Half Full (2021), followed by The Still (2022). Half Full received an honourable mention at the Vancouver Badass Film Festival in 2022, while The Still premiered at the Toronto Indie Horror Festival that same year.
She continued by writing, directing, and executive producing the short film I Can’t Go On (2023) with the Crazy8s organization. The film won the Best Foreign Short Award at the La Femme International Film Festival in 2023, as well as Outstanding Screenplay, Cinematography, and Directing at the Short Circuit Pacific Rim Film Festival in 2024.
I Can’t Go On also won four prestigious Leo Awards, including Best Direction of a Short Drama.
In addition to filmmaking, Brenna publishes critical film analysis through her blog, You Remind Me of the Frame, writing about some of her favourite works, including Phantom of the Paradise, Pan’s Labyrinth, and Mad Max: Fury Road.
