I've been making movies since high school. When my friends and I took over the morning announcements, we saw an opportunity to produce short films for a captive audience (and by that, I mean an audience that literally had to watch. The entire school was held hostage by our silliness).
SARAH WALSH
Born and raised in Vancouver and now based in Los Angeles, Sarah Walsh is an Actor, Producer, and Programmer. She serves as an integral part of the programming and procurement team for the Vancouver Horror Show, scouting and championing the next wave of premier independent genre talent.
KARIN KONOVAL
Karin Konoval has appeared in guest starring roles in numerous TV series and supporting lead roles in many feature films, including the role of "Maurice" (the orangutan) in Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011), Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014), and War for the Planet of the Apes (2017). She received a Philip Borsos award for her lead role as "Mary Leonard" in the feature Cable Beach (2004) and has received numerous awards for her work in theatre, performing lead roles in contemporary classics and a wide range of musicals. She has also been a fan favourite for her appearances on the X-Files.
ALEX ZAHARA
Alex Zahara is an award-winning actor with over 100 screen credits, and has appeared in numerous plays. He was born in Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada. He started acting professionally with several award-winning plays, and got his first film role in The 13th Warrior (1999) with Antonio Banderas and Omar Sharif. His breakthrough role was guest-starring on The Sentinel (1996) episode "Night Shift", playing Gabriel, a homeless man/angel.
BRAYDEN DeMOREST-PURDY
Brayden DeMorest-Purdy is an award-winning director, producer, and writer. He started his career in Toronto, Ontario at Rogers Television as a studio assistant, and worked his way to directing and producing segments for the station. His directorial debut Beyond the Woods won four best picture awards, a best directing award, and a variety of other awards and nominations. And is available to watch on Apple TV, Prime, Cineplex, and more.
MEGHAN HEMINGWAY
Award-winning writer, director and showrunner Dennis Heaton is renowned for his deft balance of comedy and dark subject matter, as showcased in his cult classic zombie movie FIDO and his short films, CANNIBALISM AND YOUR TEEN and HEAD SHOT.
ELYANA MORADI
Elyana Moradi is an independent Persian-Canadian filmmaker. Her films examine the duality of identity in the aftermath of immigration, reflecting the intersection of Persian and Canadian cultures as they intertwine with memory and the lived experience of womanhood.
Her latest short film “Project Human” will be screening as part of VHS 2026’s Student Shorts Program.
OMKAR PRASANNA MOHARE
Omkar Mohare is a Writer-Director from Mumbai, India whose work delves into psychological horror and surreal drama, often exploring themes of identity, guilt, and transformation.
His latest short film “Tailor-Made” will be screening as part of VHS 2026’s Student Shorts Program.
MATTHEW ALAN SCHMIDT
Matthew grew up in the small town of Port Alberni, BC, where he fell in love with filmmaking at a young age, teaching himself the Adobe suite to make goofy videos with his friends.
His latest short film “Gal Pal Camp Massacre VII” will be screening at VHS 2026.
JACOB WELDON AND LOKEN CHARON
Jacob Weldon is a film editor and director from the Vancouver area with a lifelong passion for creative, unique, innovative and boundary-pushing cinema in the B.C. industry. He has been an Editor on dozens of TV movies produced by Champlain Media.
Loken Charon is a Canadian Film Director, Screenwriter, and Editor. He is known for the multi-award winning short film Moshpit, Devil Makes Three, and Co-Creator of TV Pilot Surface of Blood.
Their latest short film “Gut Job” will be screening at VHS 2026.
KAJETAN KWIATKOWSKI
Ki is an award-winning Polish/Canadian film-maker whose work spans the spectrum of psychological horror and absurd comedy.
Ki most recently wrapped a proof of concept for his debut feature, Krew (2026) , a project that merges his diverse background in genre and comedy. For Ki, Krew is a career-defining endeavor that marks his transition into feature film-making.
“Krew” will hold its Vancouver Premiere at VHS 2026.
BRENNA GOODWIN-McCABE
Brenna Goodwin-McCabe is a versatile writer and director with a keen interest in Gothic horror. She has presented writing at McGill, Dalhousie, and the University of British Columbia, where she completed her grant awarded Masters of English degree with a thesis on Mary Shelley and Guillermo del Toro.
Her latest short film, “Start the Show” will have its North American Premiere at VHS 2026.

Alex Vance is known for I Dare You (2016), Jane (2022) and Supergirl (2015).
Her latest short film, “Women of a Certain Rage” will screen at VHS 2026.
KELSEY BOLLIG
Bollig is a rising force in horror and action, known for crafting genre stories with teeth - subversive, stylish, and unafraid to bleed. She burst onto the scene by winning Best Screenplay at just twelve years old and has since become a fixture on the international festival circuit, with her award-winning shorts screening at Fantasia, Fantastic Fest, Hollyshorts, and Beyond Fest.
Her latest short film, “The Bones Exist” will hold its Canadian Premiere at VHS 2026.
MATTHEW DUVALL
DuVall is an Oscar Award winning VFX artist who has spent his career shaping some of the most iconic visuals in modern cinema and television. With credits spanning Life of Pi, Deadpool, and Game of Thrones, he has been instrumental in pushing the boundaries of visual effects, bringing fantastical worlds and characters to life while elevating storytelling on a global scale.

SCOTT BALLARD
After living and working as a freelance filmmaker in Seattle, New Orleans, New York City, Boston, and most recently, Portland, Oregon, Scott Ballard currently resides in Savannah, Georgia where he focuses on a dedication to education, independent narrative film and documentary filmmaking. Scott is a Professor and Associate Chair of Film & Television at Savannah College of Art & Design and continues to create work through Western Exit Productions & Scott Ballard Films.
His latest short film, “Zombie Dogs!” will hold its Canadian Premiere at VHS 2026.
MEG FAVREAU
Meg Favreau is a writer, filmmaker, and artist whose work centers relatable characters in heightened and unusual worlds, whether that’s through horror, comedy, or speculative fiction. Meg wrote and directed the narrative shorts THE LAST CHEAP HOUSE and HOT DOG STEERING WHEEL, as well as the documentary short THE LADDER. As a screenwriter, Meg has written projects for several companies, including co-writing the animated comedy THE TWITS (2025) for Netflix, based on the Roald Dahl book.
Her latest short film, “The Last Cheap House” will hold its BC Premiere at VHS 2026.
ZACH CALVENO
Zach was born in Los Angeles and raised in Vancouver, BC where he is currently based. His passion for filmmaking started at an early age and continued to grow from there.
Zach’s latest short film, “Jesse’s Birthday 2005” is screening at VHS 2026.
LUKE BRAMLEY
Born in Vancouver, Luke developed a passion for horror cinema at a young age after viewing the films The Shining and A Nightmare on Elm Street. After a stint as a cook, he decided it was time to pursue his passion and enrolled in film school where he fell in love with the moviemaking process.
Luke’s latest short film, “SVMMONED” is holding its BC Premiere at VHS 2026.
