DENNIS HEATON
Award-winning writer, director and showrunner Dennis Heaton is renowned for his deft balance of comedy and dark subject matter, as showcased in his cult classic zombie movie FIDO and his short films, CANNIBALISM AND YOUR TEEN and HEAD SHOT. Heaton served as head writer and showrunner on international hits CALL ME FITZ, MOTIVE, and GHOST WARS. The success of Heaton’s first Netflix series THE ORDER led directly to his second Netflix series, THE IMPERFECTS. Accolades include the best short film prize at the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival for HEAD SHOT; the Canadian Screen Award for best comedy series for CALL ME FITZ; the WGC Screenwriting Award for YVON OF THE YUKON; the New York Television Festival Best Web Series Award for MY PAL, SATAN; the 2020 Writers Guild Of Canada Showrunner Of The Year Award; the 2023 Canadian Screen Award for best writing in a TV movie for his adaptation of THE AMITYVILLE CURSE; and the 2026 Best Screenwriting Dramatic Series Leo Award for MURDER IN A SMALL TOWN. Heaton recently completed writing and executive producing season 3 of MURDER IN A SMALL TOWN, where he’s often asked to tone down his murder scenes. He is currently part of the development team for the upcoming AMC/ACORN series PACK RAT, starring Eric McCormack.
